What is a fume cupboard?

A fume cupboard, also known as a fume hood, is a piece of laboratory equipment designed to safely capture, contain, and remove hazardous fumes, vapours or gases generated during experiments or chemical processes. It works by drawing air from the laboratory into the enclosure, where harmful substances are contained by the internal ventilation system and exhausted outside the building, ensuring a safe working environment.
